“How to kill an idea.” Rick Outzen criticises Pensacola City Council members for “destroying innovative ideas.” According to Mr. Outzen, “Instead of figuring out how to make the Pensacola Promise proposal better and make it work, they shred it apart.”

The Pensacola City Council this afternoon voted to refer the Pensacola’s Promise scholarship plan to City staff for further analysis. The motion passed 8-2, with Councilmembers DeWeese and Johnson dissenting.
That motion came as a substitute motion to the original motion by Councilwoman DeWeese to approve the proposal. The plan as proposed, modelled after successful Promise plans in Kalamazoo, Michigan and elsewhere, would provide a framework to fund college…

The long-awaited Pensacola’s Promise plan is set to be unveiled at City Council committee meetings this afternoon. The Promise plan, modelled after similar programs in Kalamazoo, Michigan and elsewhere, would provide a framework for providing all high school graduates residing within the City limits with a college education.
