Federal qualifying ends

The qualifying period for federal and judicial offices ended on at noon Friday.

Twenty-four candidates qualified to run for U.S. Senate, including five Democrats, four Republicans, one Libertarian, and one member of the Constitution Party of Florida. Six candidates, including Governor Charlie Crist, qualified with no party affiliation. The remainder, write-in candidates, will not appear on the ballot. All ballot candidates but Democrat Kendrick Meek qualified by paying a $10,440 filing fee…

Recent candidate filings

In recent weeks, a number of candidates have filed to run for various offices next year:

BOCC-4. Grover C. Robinson IV (R), the incumber County Commissioner for District 4, has filed to run for reelection. A press release sent out by his campaign touts his efforts to cut taxes and spending and states that Commissioner Robinson wants to “continue to work with his fellow commissioners to build on the progress made over the last three years. Thad Cohen profile. We were pleased to see a favourable profile of CRA Director Thad Cohen on the front page of Sunday’s News Journal. Mr. Cohen is an incredible asset to the City.

Bense to stay on as UWF president. The Board of Trustees for the University of West Florida voted Friday to retain Judy Bense as president through March 2012.
