Oh, snap.
Rick Outzen is reporting that PNS Hotel Group, Ltd., a consortium of developers, has filed suit against the City of Pensacola over its lease of property at Pensacola Gulf Coast Regional Airport to Sandspur Development, LLC for the purposes of developing a hotel and other commercial properties. PNS Hotel Group is comprised of Bob Cleveland, Dave Cleveland, Jim Cronley, Tony Terhaar, Darryl Lapointe, and John Connell, and owns and manages three hotels in the Airport area.

The PNJ’s Jamie Page reports that the phones at ECUA are ringing off the hook due to heavy demand for recycling containers. I’m glad to see it. As you know, ECUA, which serves the unincorporated areas of Escambia County, has designed and swiftly implemented a curbside recycling program — even lowering rates in the process. Meanwhile those of us in the City (most of us, at least) lag behind because the City can’t won’t cough up $1 million for recycling containers.
I could literally find the $1 million in about three and a half minutes. It’s a lack of will, and a lack of pressure from the citizenry, which allows the City to drag its feet here.

According to City Director of Finance Dick Barker, the City [...]

Pensacola City Councilman Sam Hall has come out in favour of full City-County unification:
I like the Jacksonville model.
My hope is that the Century, ECUA, Escambia County, and Pensacola governments agree to come under one authority.
I’m all for consolidation of certain departments and services; but I much prefer City expansion to the kind of full [...]

Currently, the City of Pensacola and Escambia County have a mutual agreement to provide police and fire services to each other when requested. For example, if there was a fire in the County, but there was a Pensacola Fire Department station closer to the fire, Escambia County could request that PFD respond, and we typically [...]

For those of you who didn’t know, there are eighteen boards, authorities, and commissions that perform a variety of functions, advisory to quasi-legislative, for the City of Pensacola. Many of these boards are stacked with special interests. That’s because the system is designed to shut regular citizens out. Right now, whenever a [...]

As I predicted, the City’s followed suit and announced a pilot recycling program for about 400 East Hill homes. The program will supply an extra 90-gallon container for recyclables, and reduce garbage pickup to once-weekly, replacing the second pickup with one for recyclables. At current the pilot program plans to do this at no additional [...]
