“BP barbie” clueless before Council

BP Director of Civic Affairs Liz Castro, who Rick’s Blog has dubbed a “BP barbie,” appeared before the Pensacola City Council today to detail a plan to decontaminate oil booms at the former Runyan shipyard site on the City side of Bayou Chico. Ms. Castro unfortunately lived up to her nickname as she was apparently unable to answer even the most basic questions posed by Council members, and repeatedly told Council members she would have to get back to them after consulting “technical” people.
The site would be used by BP to bring in contaminated oil booms to wash them in onshore basins. The site would also be used as a transfer point at which tanks of oil and water recovered from the Gulf would be transferred to road or rail.
Councilman Larry B. Johnson asked Ms. Castro if BP had obtained a permit from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Ms. Castro didn’t know. Surprised that BP’s chosen representative couldn’t answer such a basic question, Councilman Sam Hall asked rhetorically, “Why would BP send in someone so poorly prepared?” Councilwoman Diane Mack called the BP presentation “an insult to this Council.”
The most entertaining exchange came after Ms. Castro identified herself as the Director of Civic Affairs for BP. Councilman Hall appeared surprised:
Councilman Hall: You’re the Director of Civic Affairs for all of BP?
Ms. Castro: Yes.
Councilman Hall: Worldwide?
Ms. Castro: For the U.S.
Councilman Hall: Wow.
After heavy complaints from Council members, the BP presentation was aborted and Ms. Castro was asked to come back to Council on Thursday night with some answers.
Political grandstanding aside, Ms. Castro’s cluelessness and BP’s decision not to send anyone who knew anything other than how to read off a PowerPoint presentation was… bizarre.

I find it sickly bizarre when all of the corporate crime as of lately is never called criminal or treated as such but instead spins only into “a source of concern” Same way a bribe is ok now when labeled a Quid Pro Quo…
No need to wonder why they can’t stop the oil, when their director comes across as a total dingbat. Are their technical people any better?
How did she get the job? Is she blond?
This should be criminal. How many people knew this was an accident waiting to happen and did nothing. Business as usual I suspect . How many other rigs are ticking timebombs sloppily operated by BP?
I have a few ideas on how she got the job…She seems pretty young to have the whole US under her belt.
