Racetracker: City Council, At-Large B

The Pensacola City Council is the legislative body of the City of Pensacola. It is comprised of seven members elected by district and two members elected at large. Beginning with the 2010 elections, the Mayor of Pensacola will no longer be a member of the City Council; he will instead be an elected executive.

Members of Council earn an annual salary of $13,998. Elections for the Pensacola City Council are non-partisan. In accordance with the new City Charter, Council members elected in 2010 for Districts 1, 3, 5, 7, and At-Large “B” will serve two-year terms, and be up for reelection to full four-year terms in 2012. This is necessary in order to effect a staggered election cycle.

The District

The two at-large seats on the City Council are elected at-large. All registered City electors are eligible to vote in the at-large races.

Declared candidates

Sam Hall

Sam Hall is currently serving his second term as the District 2 representative on the Pensacola City Council. On January 25, 2009, he filed to run for the At-Large B seat on the Council.

Mr. Hall is retired from the United States Coast Guard. His ascension to the Pensacola City Council in 2006 was a breakthrough victory which paved the way for the 2008 elections, in which three incumbents were ousted in favor of younger, more progressive candidates.
