Racetracker: Escambia County School Board, District 3

The five-member Escambia County School Board exercises legislative authority regarding the Escambia County School District.  Board members are elected to four-year terms and earn an annual salary of $35,938.

The District

District 3 includes much of south-central Escambia County (see map). Although School Board races are non-partisan, District 3 is traditionally a Democratic and African-American stronghold.  The District 3 seat is currently held by Linda Moultrie, who was elected in a special election in 2008 after the prior representative resigned.

Linda Moultrie (i)

Linda Moultrie was elected in a 2008 special election to serve the balance of Claudia Brown-Curry’s term, after the latter’s resignation. She is now seeking a full term.

Claudia Brown-Curry

Claudia Brown-Curry was elected to serve as the District 3 representative on the School Board in 2006, but resigned in 2008 to run unsuccessfully for Superintendent of Schools.

Ms. Brown-Curry is a teacher at the Sid Nelson Learning Community Center.

LuTimothy May

LuTimothy May is the pastor of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.

Charlie Nichols

Charlie Nichols is the assistant principal of Longleaf Elementary School.
