Open Books anniversary event Saturday

Local independent bookstore Open Books will celebrate its second anniversary Saturday with a day-long open house. The event will feature live music, poetry, and documentary screenings, as well as refreshments.

The event will be held Saturday, November 14, from 2-10 PM, with the entertainment beginning at 5:00 PM. Open Books is located at 4115 Barrancas Avenue in Warrington, next to Warrington Hardware and across the street from the Hip Pocket Deli.

Entertainment will begin at 5:00 PM with an open mic poetry reading. Local musicians Jerry and Lynn Jackson, Rymodee, Whiskey Comatose and Big Lo will perform.

The Open House will conclude with screenings of two documentary films:

  • The Farm: Life Inside Angola Prison. The Farm is a look at the lives and struggles of several inmates in Angola Prison in Louisiana, the largest maximum security prison in the country.
  • A Sentence of Their Own. This documentary follows one family in which the patriarch is incarcerated hundreds of miles away from his wife and two sons.
