Vigil tonight in memory of Victor Steen

A candlelight vigil in memory of Victor Steen is scheduled to take place tonight. Today would have been Mr. Steen’s 18th birthday.

The vigil will be held at the site of his death near Cervantes and R Streets beginning at 7:00 PM.

On October 3, Victor Steen was struck and killed by the cruiser of Pensacola Police Officer Jerald Ard. Officer Ard claims he observed Mr. Steen trespassing at a construction site and attempted to stop him for questioning, after which he claims Mr. Steen fled on bicycle. Officer Ard then made the decision to pursue Victor Steen with his cruiser, violating several Pensacola Police Department pursuit policies in the process before striking and killing Mr. Steen near Cervantes and R Streets.

has there been any update on this investigation? I cant find anything from the FDLE about this or what the investigation turned up? I have a a sinking feeling that its getting swept under the rug and more of the good ole boy system happening here

    • Concerned:

I spoke to the FDLE’s public information officer Mike Morrison yesterday. He would only say “The investigation remains active and ongoing.”
