Round-up, 07.27.09

A few items I wanted to highlight today:

More on the North Hill vs. AT&T showdown. Rick’s Blog reprints a letter from Scott Davis of the North Hill Preservation Association to Council and City staff. The letter is a well-reasoned, legally-grounded argument for oversight of AT&T utility installations in public rights-of-way.

More on the Plaza Ferdinand VII situation. Our friends at the ultra-conservative loopty blog The Lunch Counter encourage citizens to show up at the City Council’s August 13 meeting to give their input on the City’s proposed ordinance restricting use of Plaza Ferdinand VII.

Mark O’Brien proposes a deal. News Journal columnist Mark O’Brien suggests that the City purchase the News Journal building at 101 East Romana Street, which is up for sale, and build the new downtown library there. Then, he says, the PNJ staff can use some of the vacant offices at City Hall. Mr. O’Brien amusingly calls the headquarters of his employer “easily the ugliest structure in downtown Pensacola.”

A more careful reading of this post on The Lunch Counter encourages readers to show up and tell the City Council what THEY think. Not what I think. I’m just trying to inform and encourage citizen participation.

  • Ross, you are completely correct. I apologise for the mischaracterisation, and have corrected it!

  • What does loopty mean? I couldn’t find a definition for it.
