Fourth of July goings-on

Here’s a round-up of some of the Fourth of July celebrations going down this Saturday:

Sertoma’s Fourth of July

As has been the case for the last 20 years, the Pensacola area’s main Fourth of July celebration will be hosted by area Sertoma organisations. Here’s the schedule:

  • 11:00 AM—6:30 AM: Arts and crafts, food vendors, a free children’s area, and live entertainment in Seville Square
  • Noon: Hot Dog Eating Contest in the Seville Square gazebo
  • 7:30 PM: Free concert by Junior Brown
  • 9:00 PM: Fireworks display over Pensacola Bay

Other Pensacola events

A few other things going on in the Pensacola area:

  • 7:30 AM: Ronald McDonald House Firecracker 5K Run, East Government Street between Jefferson and Tarragona Streets. For more info see rmhpensacola.org.
  • Noon: Hot dog eating contest at the Dog House Deli, 30 South Palafox Street.
  • 5:00 PM: Hot dog eating contest at The Ticket Sports Bar, 820 East Gregory Street.

Kaboom 2009 (Pensacola Beach)

Pensacola Beach has a pretty large Fourth of July celebration in its own right:

  • 3:00 PM-9:00 PM: Live music at the Gulfside Pavilion
  • 3:00 PM-9:00 PM: Live music at the Quietwater Beach shell
  • 9:00 PM: Fireworks display over Santa Rosa Sound

Riverfest 2009 (Milton)

Over in Milton there’s Riverfest 2009, held in downtown Milton’s Riverwalk area:

  • 9:00 AM: Car show
  • 10:00 AM: Boat parade
  • 11:00 AM-5:00 PM: Children’s activity area
  • 2:00 PM: Blackwater River Pirate Attack
  • 5:00 PM: Duck race
  • 6:00 PM: Salute to veterans
  • “At Dark”: Fireworks display over the Blackwater River

The Wharf’s Fireworks Spectacular (Orange Beach)

The Wharf in Orange Beach will host a concert by Lee Greenwood, followed by a fireworks display. Admission is $7.

    And. AND ! ! ! All right-wing extremists (and undercover liberal moles) will be at 9th & Creighton at NOON – 2PM for a Tea Party.

    With so much going on there is plenty to party about.

    I’ll be there with some Fair Tax information, and, hoping to get a chance to explain the Fair Tax to you.

  • What’s the scoop on one of the latest proposed Obama bills? It has a catchy name.

    Does it really include provisions that if you do not upgrade to energy efficiency when you sell property you will pay a higher tax ie penalty? I heard that it would not affect properties currently for sale prior to the passing of the bill.

    Anyone fill us in?
