A few items I wanted to highlight today:
Pensacola News Journal:
“Charter review panel hears from public”
The City’s Charter Review Commission last night held a public hearing on its proposed charter revisions. Minor changes were made as a result of the public’s comments. The commission is expected to vote on approval of the charter on July 8; if approved, the charter will be submitted to the City Council for consideration at its July 23 meeting. If approved by Council, a referendum on the proposed charter will be set.
Mr. Page recaps the specifics of yesterday’s hearing.
Rick’s Blog:
“Valentino recruited Sindel to run against Grover”
Remember those bizarre, profane, juicy emails sent by Escambia County Commissioner Gene Valentino, in which he references try to get someone to run against fellow Commissioner Grover Robinson IV?
Rick Outzen reports that the someone was Karen Sindel, executive director of the Florida Association of Local Housing Finance Authorities. Ms. Sindel has said she will not run, and Commissioner Valentino has said he regrets his comments.
Independent News:
“A Port Hole”
Sean Boone of the Independent News reports on the state of the Port of Pensacola. Port User’s Association says the City doesn’t give the Port a large enough marketing budget. Port Director Clyde Mathis says he feels “optimistic about the things that are happening.” Mr. Boone takes a look at the Port compared to those in Panama City and Pascagoula, Mississippi.
Jamie Page’s Notebook:
“Consolidation group has questions for itself”
The News Journal’s Jamie Page details the questionnaire distributed among the members of the Consolidation Study Commission.
