Oh, Gene!
Our friends at the Independent News have been publishing pages and pages of Escambia County Commissioner Gene Valentino’s emails, and there are some real gems. The emails paint a picture of an angry, resentful man prone to throwing temper tantrums when things don’t go his way. He rails against everyone from constituent groups to reporters to fellow commissioners, at one point plotting to run a candidate against one of them. He peppers his emails with shifty phrases such as “you are protected” and “you guys put up the cash.”
Oh, Gene.
Progressive Pensacola has never been a fan of Gene Valentino. He’s in the pocket of developers and wants to remake the Pensacola area into something we don’t want it to be. That said, we never thought he was dumb enough to say some of these things in emails subject to disclosure as public records.
Here’s our favourite quote, from an email sent by Commissioner Valentino to bingo casino developer Cy Keefer on March 6:
You’ve got to watch the rerun of last night’s county commission meeting. I got FUCKED again by Commissioner Grover Robinson (District 4) and Commissioner Kevin White (District 5) … Through that very important contact you recently made, I need him to simultaneously nail the downtown crowd and get that crowd to support a new candidate I have to run against one of them, support me, and to get him to use his influence to set these two guys straight.

For those of you old enough to know this one… His new name can be “Gene, Gene the dancing machine”.
Lay off Valentino. Progressive Pensacola, IN Weekly, and others are in the pockets of the downtown crowd!
He’s the only one even trying to do anything for our area and you good ole boys are out to get him by these constant attacks.
What have ANY of the other commissioners done to improve our are and bring in jobs?
Has anyone noticed that we’re one of the poorest counties in Florida if not the country?
olddaze…don’t you know that Gene has never been part of the “downtown crowd”. They will do anything to destroy people that get in their way, I agree with that.
But what he did is not right regardless of what “crowd” he is in. He ran on a promise of more open government and growth.
He might be doing the right thing but going about it the wrong way.
OK everyone here’s you chance to hear about Commissioner Gene Valentino’s background & experience in economic development and details of his economic develpoment vision.
This Monday night (tomorrow) the Commissioner will be interviewed by Jeff Weeks for WUWF-TV and it will be broadcast at 7:00 PM and rebroadcast on Tuesday evening at 7:30 PM.
The first half of the interview will focus on the Commissioner’s background and experience in business and the final half will centered on the ED plan that the Commissioner has laid out, how it can work and the benefits our area while providing true impartiality and transparency for the citizens.
I hope everyone can take an hour and become better informed on ths hot issue.
