Round-up, 04.02.09

A few items I wanted to highlight today:

Rick’s Blog:
“Gaetz aims to stop double-dipping”

State Senators Mike Fasano (R-Port Richey) and Don Gaetz (R-Niceville) have introduced S 1182, which would close a loophole which allows state and municipal employees to retire, begin collecting their pension, and then be rehired and collect a salary and pension simultaneously. As Mr. Outzen notes, several local officials have taken advantage, including Escambia County Tax Collector Janet Holley, Clerk of the Circuit Court Ernie Lee Magaha, and numerous City officials.

Larry B. Johnson:
“City boards”

Pensacola City Councilman Larry B. Johnson has posted a list of all City boards and their members. Any citizens interested in serving on a City board should check out the list to see when a seat comes up for nomination.

Progressive Pensacola will try to keep track of openings and post them here as they come up.

Larry B. Johnson:
“Art of Fashion 2009″

Councilman Johnson plugs the Covenant Hospice “Art of Fashion” fundraiser:

Covenant Hospice and local artists Nina Fritz and Lisa Kirkman will present the 4th Annual Art of Fashion event, which will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 15 at New World Landing. This “Kentucky Derby” themed luncheon features a runway fashion show, live and silent art auction, derby hat contest and special drawings.

The runway fashion show will feature casual, swim, career and evening wear for both men and women. Fashion show participants include national swimwear maven and reality TV star, Ashley Paige, The Fashion Connection, Lee Tracy, The Market, Don Alan’s and ETC.

We realise many have scaled back their giving due to the economic climate, but Covenant Hospice is a good organisation and worthy of your consideration.
