The coming week in City government: COTW

Due to the size of the Committee of the Whole agenda, I will handle Committee of the Whole separately from the other committees this week.
The Committee of the Whole will be spending a lot of time voting on board appointments, both of its own members to community boards and of citizens to City boards.
Council members also have the opportunity to serve on various community boards. With each new Council, open seats on those boards are filled. The open board seats and nominations for them are as follows:
|
Arts Council of Northwest Florida
Bay Area Resource Council
Celebrate Pensacola
Arts Council of Northwest Florida
Bay Area Resource Council
Celebrate Pensacola
Community Action Program Committee
Community Drug and Alcohol Council
Community Enterprise Investments
Downtown Improvement Board
|
Escambia County Tourist Development Council
Florida-Alabama Transportation Planning Organisation
Juvenile Justice Council
Pensacola-Escambia Clean Community Commission
Pensacola-Escambia Development Commission
Scenic Heights Corridor Management Entity
Tourism Administration Convention Committee
West Florida Regional Planning Council
|
Then comes the appointments of citizens to City boards:
Code Enforcement Board. Council will appoint one engineer and one alternate member. Only one nomination was submitted for each:
- Daniel Keck (Engineer), nominated by Ms. DeWeese
- Tom Whittaker (Alternate), nominated by Mr. Townsend
Gateway Review Board. Council will appoint one member. Only one nomination was submitted:
- Brian Spencer, nominated by Ms. Mack
General Pension Board. Council will appoint one member. Two nominations were submitted:
- Ann W. Regan, nominated by Ms. Mack
- P. A. Ucci, nomination by Mr. Johnson
A sidenote: I’m very much hoping that Mr. Ucci is appointed. He is a great critic of the City’s pension issues.
Other business to come before Committee of the Whole:
- Staff recommends Council approve Mayor Wiggins’ appointment of Ms. Nan Harper to the City’s International Relations Advisory Board. I will note that Ms. Harper is not a resident of the City, although member of that board are not required to be.
- There are presentations from the Naval Flight Academy and United Way.
- Charter Review Commission Chairwoman Crystal Spencer will appear to update Council members on the progress of the Commission.
