The bright new year

What a year.

Politically, I’ve never had so much fun.  Although my candidate didn’t win every race, I think more of them went my way than didn’t.  We have four new faces on the Pensacola City Council.  Three women.  Younger faces.  Councilmen with 15 and 20 year tenures were toppled.  A corrupt, disgraceful, bigot of a sheriff was given the boot.  An embarrassing, integrity-challenged county commissioner was voted out by a huge margin.  This community voted clearly and resoundingly for change in their local government.

We’ve got big, serious problems — on both a local and a national level — but I’m confident that a new generation of leaders can tackle some of them.  I’m as optimistic as I’ve ever been.
