Obama becomes a namesake
The City of Opa-locka in Miami-Dade County has decided to rename its Perviz Avenue after the President-elect. On President’s Day of next year, the street will be officially renamed Barack Obama Avenue.
Earlier this month, the Hempstead School Board in Long Island, New York voted to rename Ludlum Elementary School to Barack Obama Elementary School.
And that’s just the renaming that’s already been done.
The mayor of Naquera, a town in eastern Spain, wants to rename a thoroughfare Calle Barack Obama.
The prime minister of Antigua wants to rename the island nation’s highest peak Mount Obama.
I’m Barack Obama’s biggest fan — really, I am — but really? Already? Can’t we wait for him to knock it out of the park before we start renaming streets and schools and mountains?
