The state of our City Council

Unfortunately, voters only retired one City Council incumbent on Tuesday — but it was a good one.
Congratulations to Maren DeWeese for ousting 20-year incumbent Mike DeSorbo. I can’t tell you how satisfied I am that our City government is rid of him.
Congratulations also to Megan Benson Pratt for her sound victory in the District 9 At-Large race. She will be a great breath of fresh air.
Three races will go to runoffs on November 25, less than three weeks away. At that point, voters will have the chance to finish off three more incumbents. Progressive Pensacola supports the challengers. We urge voters to retire the incumbents.
- All City residents will be able to vote for Diane Mack to take Pensacola forward. It’s time we thank 14-year incumbent Jack Nobles for his service and give him more time to spend with his family and go on fishing trips.
- Those of you in District 4 can choose a Larry B. Johnson, a candidate with good plans and fresh ideas, over Marty Donovan, whose negative attitude and lack of solutions haven’t gotten us anywhere.
- District 7 residents can choose Jacqueline Shumaker and retire Ronald Townsend, who has become entrenched in the system. Like the system, so too must he go.
Condolences to C. J. Lewis, who ran an excellent albeit underfunded and undermanned campaign. We hope he stays active in City affairs.
We have made leaps and bounds, folks, and our City will be better for it.

Good riddance DeSorbo. Your hateful attitude and sneers at citizens while speaking will not be missed. It’s time for younger, more positive blood on the council.
Mike Wiggins – what a low count win after 14 years of “service”
Too many uninformed voters vote for the only name they recognize and after 14 years, they should recognize that one!
Now for the promises on Mike’s campaign propaganda to be fulfilled.
