The fierce urgency of now

Dr. Martin Luther King said in 1967:

We are now faced with the fact, my friends, that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now.

His words, as they so often do, ring so clear and so true forty years later. I feel that fierce urgency. We can’t wait two or four more years to make a change. We need leadership, certainly on the national level, but so much more so on the local level. We need a mayor of new blood, willing to lead the City of Pensacola through its multitude of challenges. We need new faces on City Council, who are willing to put forth new ideas and who will refuse to accept the status quo.

And we can do it. The foundation has been laid; excellent candidates are running. We can revamp local government in a single day. It’s as simple as admitting that we’re not okay with the status quo, with the same old politicians putting on the same old show. It’s as simple as not voting for the incumbents that have let us down over and over again.

If you feel, as I feel, the fierce urgency of now, then stand with me. Vote C. J. Lewis for Mayor. Vote Megan Benson Pratt and Diane Mack for Council’s at-large seats. In each district (except 2), vote for the newcomer.

As King said in that same speech: “We must move past indecision to action.”
