MOBY on a roll
The PNJ’s Mark O’Brien is on a roll lately with his weird attack blogs. Forget O’Brien’s party affiliation — he’s apparently just pro-incumbent, as in the past few weeks he’s written pieces maligning challengers to City incumbents Mike Wiggins, Jewel Cannada-Wynn, and Marty Donovan.
And then, sometimes, the wit that makes O’Brien occasionally entertaining to read is just nowhere to be found, as was the case in a blog post today, where he advised “the liberals” not to make light of Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin’s pregnant teenage daughter:
Forget about Palin’s 17-year-old pregnant daughter. That’s a personal matter. (Liberals really shouldn’t open that door. If they do, folks will wonder why the liberals don’t express such outrage about the huge number of black children born to teenage mothers — often with no father in the picture.)
How O’Brien jumps from Bristol Palin’s situation to the issue of young unwed black teenage mothers, I don’t know. I’m trying really hard to interpret this as anything other than bigotry.
I don’t know if MOBY would lump me in with “the liberals”, but I don’t think there is anyone in the Democratic party that doesn’t realise teenage pregnancy, and especially teenage pregnancy in low-income minority groups, is a serious problem. MAYBE if conservatives like Sarah Palin would back off hardline abstinence-only education, which hasn’t worked, and educate our young people about safe sex practices, both her daughter and those young black teenage women would not be in the situation they are now.
